Dear Millburn Staff and Parents/Guardians,
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, this Friday May 22, will be a Health and Wellness Day. Virtual learning on Friday will consist of opportunities for Health & Wellness for students and staff. While teachers will not be providing live meets or office hours on Friday, students will be offered a variety of health and wellness learning opportunities to do during the day.
There are many resources available on the Virtual Learning link on your school and district webpages.
Some of the Health and Wellness activities that students can participate in on Friday include:
- Field Trips:
- Color some pages of the AP Art Students Coloring Book
- Physical Activity:
- Try some Guided Meditation with Washington School Nurse, Trish O’Gorman:
- Get some exercise with our Physical Education teachers for National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. They remind you to challenge yourself and your family, and try to partake in at least 15 minutes per day of a Physial Fitness Activity.
- Take a Yoga or Fitness Class at the Summit Y, and check out their many actitivies for kids of all ages.
- Our school libraries are also open virtually for resources and lending. Check them out in our Virtual Learning Hubs.
- Access many resources at the “Library is Open” website.
- The Millburn “Virtual” Public Library is open for borrowing books, movies, fitness videos, and other mental health resources that can be downloaded or viewed online.
- Watch a read-aloud, or a few, with the New Jersey Literacy Association.
- Listen to some relaxing music for sleep or study.
- Mental Health:
- Take a break and learn more about ways to relax.
- See the resources available in our district if you need support for your students or yourself.
- Common Sense Media has a list of apps that are available for stress relief and mental health support.
- Coping Advice from the CDC:
- Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting.
- Take care of your body by taking deep breaths, stretching, or meditating.
- Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals.
- Get plenty of sleep.
- Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling.
